My second trip to Shiraz went well. Not as dramatic as my trip last year, until the last moments leaving Shiraz airport.
As the aircraft took speed, it lift its nose up in the air, ready to take it’s rear tires off ground and become airborne. At that moment we heard a loud noise and the plane shook roughly. I looked out the window and noticed a flame coming out of the engine. The wing was about to hit the ground and crash ... but the pilot managed to control it and land back. There was enough runway ahead, so the plane did not crash into the fence or the fields nearby. I looked behind the aircraft as it landed back and noticed a flame and a smoke, the runway was on fire.
We exited the aircraft and went back to the airport. The airport personnel and workers told us that the noise shook the airport windows and that all had thought that the plane had crashed. As one person put it: “You are really lucky, God had a great mercy on you, we thought you all died!”
An Australian tourist was on board that happened to be a trained flight attendant. Allegedly, he told one of the passengers that we were very lucky to be alive as this situation is very dangerous and rarely aircrafts survive such engine failure during take off.
When I described this experience to another friend…he said: “You got a second chance at life!”
What should I do with this second chance?
